The fiat.co.uk website was relaunched in 2007 and featured a fully dynamic & interactive configuration experience for users buying the FIat 500.
Before interactive car configurators were widely available and native html was capable of delivering high quality and performant experiences, we developed the fiat.co.uk website fully in flash. Through flash we were able to make seemless realtime animated updates to the car visuals based on the users configurations.
Additionally, we were able to execute much of the business logic that determined the permissiable configurations the user may make. This reduced the time to execution as we didn't rely on server side calls for each adjustment a user made.
As part of a 12 person team specialising in flash development I worked on developing elements of the business logic that determined if specific options were valid based on previous choices. This required working along side the seniour server side architects to understand the car definitition data being provided to ensure invalid configurations couldn't be created.
I additionally built some of the sub sections along side the Car configurator itself. I also worked on aspects of the Print and PDF generation.
